Epic 8
Algupära
Epic 8 on kaheksas põlvkond Specializedi lipulaevast XC võistlusrattast, mis toodi turule 2023. aasta lõpus 2024. mudeliaastaks ja jätkub 2026. aastani. Epic liin on domineerinud maastikurattasõidus alates 2002. aastast, kui Specialized tutvustas Brain inertsiklapi amorti, mis eristas pedaalimisjõude löökidest. Üle saja maailmakarika võidu, Cape Epicu võidud ja olümpiakuld kinnitasid platvormi spordiajaloo edukaima XC rattana. Epic 8 on märgiline väljalase, sest see loobub täielikult Brainist – asendatud tavapärase RockShox SIDLuxe amortiga – ja suurendab tagarataste käigu pikkust 100 mm-lt (Epic 7) 120 mm-ni, esirattal on 120 mm SID kahvel. S-Works saab RockShox Flight Attendant elektroonilise vedrustuse integreeritud võimsusmõõturiga, mis on esmakordne XC-s.

Verdikt
- Chassis blends efficient pedaling stiffness with genuine descending comfort and confidence — a true 'do trail stuff with a race bike' machine (BikeRadar 4.5/5)
- Custom 'Magic Middle' SIDLuxe shock tune gives a supportive, fast-pedaling platform without a lockout fuss
- 120 mm travel front and rear plus the slackest-ever Epic geometry make it far more capable on descents than previous Epics
- Top-spec parts package with SRAM Eagle AXS Transmission and integrated Quarq power meter even at Pro level
- First Epic with down-tube SWAT internal storage — tools/tube hidden in the frame
- Very expensive — Pro ~€9,500, S-Works ~€14,500; the price is widely called its main flaw
- 435 mm chainstays are constant across all four sizes, so front/rear balance shifts on larger frames (XL riders feel it most)
- Rounded XC tires (Fast Trak/Renegade) make handling feel twitchy in some situations and limit grip in loose/wet conditions
- Most bob-prone of its class in fully Open mode — noticeable shock movement during seated efforts on smooth ground; the digressive tune can feel odd when bouncing the saddle in the car park
- Stiffer, more reactive chassis demands more rider skill and effort to manage than the previous Epic; S-Works Flight Antendant battery charging must be kept on top of
