Epic 8 EVO
Algupära
Epic EVO on rajale kalduv õde puhtalt võidusõiduks mõeldud Epicu kõrval, hõivates alla-maa kategooria, mida Specialized aitas määratleda. Epic 8 EVO lasti turule koos Epic 8-ga 2024. aasta alguses, millel on 120 mm tagumine käik koos 130 mm Fox 34 kahvliga, lõdvem pea nurk, haarduvamad rehvid, võimsamad pidurid ja SWAT raamisisesed hoiustamislahendused – millest ükski tavalisel Epic 8-l pole.
Tehnilised andmed
- Raam
- FACT 11m carbon (S-Works: FACT 12m). Rider-First Engineered, Progressive XC Race geometry, SWAT 4.0 downtube storage door, threaded BB, internal routing, 12x148mm Boost UDH dropout, integrated steering stop.
- Kahvel
- Fox 34, 130 mm travel, 44 mm offset. Factory GRIP2 damper (Pro/S-Works) or Performance GRIP (Comp). 10 mm more travel than the standard Epic 8's 120 mm fork.
- Jõuülekanne
- SRAM GX AXS / X0 AXS / XX SL AXS (1x12), Shimano XT/SLX on lower trims
- Pidurid
- SRAM (Avid) Code 4-piston hydraulic disc — Code Bronze Stealth (Comp) / Code with HS2 rotors (Pro). More powerful than the standard Epic's lighter brakes.
- Rattad
- 29" carbon or alloy depending on trim, Boost 110/148 hubs, UDH-compatible rear.
- Rehvid
- Front: Specialized Purgatory GRID, T9 compound, 29x2.4"; Rear: Specialized Ground Control GRID, T7 compound, 29x2.35". Grippier than the race Epic's Fast Trak/Renegade.
- Vedrustus
- Full-suspension 130 mm front / 120 mm rear. Fox Float rear shock (190x45 mm, EVOL LV air can, Ride Dynamics tune), 2/3-position compression. Digressive damper tune — snappy, supportive under pedaling.
- Rooliplokk
- Specialized alloy or carbon trail bar + stem (trim-dependent); dropper post fitted across the EVO range.
- Sadul
- Specialized Bridge / Power saddle with dropper seatpost (trim-dependent).
- Geomeetria
- 65.4° head angle (Low flip chip) / 65.9° (Hi); 130 mm fork slackens HA ~0.5° vs standard Epic 8. Reach -5 mm and lower BB in Low. Trail-leaning down-country geometry.
- Kaal
- Epic 8 EVO Pro ~12.1 kg (no pedals, tubeless, M); EVO Comp ~12.6 kg. ~2 kg heavier than S-Works Epic race bike.
Verdikt
- Exceptional climbing efficiency — taut, supportive rear shock platform that pedals like a race XC bike
- Light yet capable: sub-12.5 kg with genuine trail components (130 mm fork, Code brakes, grippy tires)
- Modern down-country geometry (65.4° HA, flip chip) descends far harder than the 120 mm travel suggests
- SWAT 4.0 in-frame storage — a first for the Epic EVO line, perfect for long days
- Stiff, fast frame that eats high-frequency trail vibration and skips precisely through tight terrain
- 120 mm rear travel reaches its limit on fast, rocky descents — not an enduro bike
- Digressive damper tune feels fast and snappy but not plush; suspension lacks a deep, comfortable feel
- Frame prefers to skip over obstacles rather than absorb them — can feel harsh on chunky terrain
- Pricey: ~2 kg heavier than S-Works Epic yet still expensive across the range (up to ~€12.5k S-Works)
- Overlaps awkwardly with the Stumpjumper 15 — buyers may agonize over EVO vs more travel
