Algupära
Kona asutati 1988. aastal Vancouveris BC-s Dan Gerhardi ja Jacob Heilbronni poolt, koostöös ratturi Joe Murrayga terasest hardtail'ide kallal. Processi sari arenes nende täisvedrustusega maastikuratta platvormiks.

Tehnilised andmed
- Raam
- Base model: Kona 6061 butted aluminum, 134mm travel. CR / CR DL: full carbon front and rear triangle (carbon adds down-tube storage compartment). All G3 frames use a linkage-driven single-pivot with a flip chip at the seatstay/rocker that keeps geometry constant between 29" and 27.5" rear wheels.
- Kahvel
- Base: RockShox Recon RL Solo Air, 140mm, 44mm offset, tapered. CR: Fox Float 34 Performance, 140mm. (140mm front travel across the range.)
- Jõuülekanne
- Base: Microshift Advent X 1x10, 11-48t. CR: SRAM GX Eagle 1x12, 10-52t (520% range).
- Pidurid
- Base: SRAM Level, 180/180mm SRAM Centerline rotors. CR: SRAM G2 R, 200/200mm rotors.
- Rattad
- 29" (size S ships with 27.5" rear / mullet; other sizes 29"). Base: WTB ST i30 TCS 2.0 rims, Formula hubs. CR: WTB KOM Team i30 TCS rims, DT Swiss 370 hubs. Boost spacing 110x15 front / 148x12 rear.
- Rehvid
- Maxxis Minion DHF 29x2.5" WT front, Maxxis Dissector 29x2.4" WT rear (EXO TR casing).
- Vedrustus
- Full-suspension 134mm rear / 140mm front. Linkage-driven single-pivot. Rear shock: RockShox Deluxe Select Trunnion (base) or Fox Float X Performance Elite Trunnion (CR).
- Rooliplokk
- Kona XC/BC 35 alloy handlebar and stem; TranzX +RAD internal dropper post (31.6mm).
- Sadul
- Kona Trail saddle on TranzX dropper post.
- Geomeetria
- 65.5° head angle, ~76.6-76.9° seat angle, 435mm chainstay (shared across all sizes), reaches 430/455/480/515mm (S/M/L/XL), ~1200mm wheelbase (M). Modern-but-not-extreme trail geometry, +5mm reach vs predecessor.
- Kaal
- ~15.0 kg (33.1 lb) for the CR/DL carbon build in XL; alloy builds heavier.

Verdikt
+Tugevused
- Excellent big-hit capability for only 134mm of rear travel — composed on rough, technical descents
- Highly versatile 'do-everything' trail bike that works across a wide range of terrain
- Modern-but-approachable geometry (65.5° HA, 435mm chainstays) that is easy to get along with
- Mixed-wheel (mullet) compatibility via flip chip with no geometry penalty
- Strong value and a clear alloy-to-carbon build ladder; good spec for the money
−Nõrkused
- Lacks a distinctive personality — its jack-of-all-trades nature means it rarely feels exciting or specialized
- Seat tube angle could be steeper, especially on larger sizes, for the steepest seated climbs
- Suspension feels firm on moderate climbs — efficient but less plush than some rivals at low speed
- Carbon CR/DL build is pricey ($5,499) for a 134mm trail bike; you pay for the chassis more than flash parts
- Base alloy build's 10-speed Microshift drivetrain and Recon fork are budget-tier and the first things owners tend to upgrade
