Mantis 8 Pro
Algupära
Kaabo on Shenzhenis asuv elektritõukerataste tootja, mis tekkis 2017-2018. aastal Hiina elektrisõidukite osade tööstuse laiemast kontekstist, tootes algselt OEM-komponente enne tarbijabrändiga tõukerataste turuletoomist aastatel 2018-2019. 2019. aastal turule toodud Mantis seeria positsioneeriti kui 'entusiastide jõudlus, mis on kättesaadav ka mitte-miljonäridele' — konkureerides selliste premium-kaubamärkidega nagu Dualtron (Korea, Minimotors), Apollo (Kanada/Hiina) ja Inokim (Iisrael/Hiina). Mantis 8 Pro saabus 2020. aastal populaarse Mantis 10 väiksemate ratastega õena, sihtides linna-jõudlussõitjaid, kes soovisid kahe mootori võimekust ilma 10-tollise rattabaasita. Voro Motors (USA) sai domineerivaks lääne turustajaks, kusjuures ELi tegevus laienes 2021-2023. aastal Saksa ja Hollandi ladu kaudu. Mantise platvorm saavutas Euroopa tõukerataste entusiastide kogukonnas kultusliku staatuse tänu oma kahe hüdraulilise ketta, kahe vedrustuse ja kahe mootori kombinatsioonile hinnaklassis 1500-1800 eurot — oluliselt rohkem jõudlust euro kohta kui premium-taseme konkurentidel.

Verdikt
- Dual-motor performance — 1600W combined power, sub-3.5s 0-25 km/h, 30%+ gradient climbing. No other sub-€2000 scooter delivers comparable torque per euro.
- Dual hydraulic disc brakes — modulated, strong stopping power. Far superior to commuter-class E-ABS systems. Essential safety component at performance speeds.
- Dual front and rear spring suspension — handles cobblestone, potholes, light off-road. Significantly better ride comfort than rigid commuter scooters on Baltic cobblestone (Tallinn Old Town, Riga Vecrīga, Vilnius Senamiestis).
- Excellent value for performance — €1500-1800 for dual-motor + dual hydraulic + dual suspension is unmatched. Premium tier (Dualtron, Apollo) costs €2500-4000 for similar capability.
- 60V/1440 Wh battery — large capacity for dual-motor scooter. Real-world 35-45 km in normal use, 25-35 km in aggressive dual-motor riding.
- Mantis platform parts ecosystem — replacement parts (brakes, tires, controllers, batteries) widely available via Voro Motors EU, EWheels, and aftermarket. No risk of orphaned ownership for the 2020-2024 production years.
- Wide deck (200mm) — comfortable for performance stance (feet side-by-side), accommodates larger riders. Significantly more spacious than commuter scooters (Segway G30 = 158mm).
- Heavy at 29.5 kg — significantly more than commuter scooters. Stairs, apartment buildings without lifts, and public transport carrying are genuinely difficult. Many enthusiast owners store the scooter in garage/storage room, not the apartment.
- 8-inch tires feel nervous at high speeds (above 40 km/h unlocked) — sensitive to road imperfections, less stable than the 10-inch Mantis platform. The trade-off for urban manoeuvrability.
- IP54 water resistance is mid-tier — not as protected as commuter scooters (Segway G30 IPX5). Baltic winter slush and prolonged wet exposure can cause electrical issues (display flicker, intermittent motor cutout). Multiple long-term reports of winter-related faults.
- Long charging time (9h full with stock charger) — battery is non-removable, so no hot-swap. Dual charger setup is €80-100 accessory to halve charging time.
- No native Baltic dealer support — all warranty and service goes through Voro Motors EU (DE) or EWheels (UK). Shipping back for service takes 1-2 weeks. For Baltic buyers, this is a significant convenience cost vs locally-supported brands (Segway, Xiaomi).
- App is mediocre — limited features compared to Segway-Ninebot, occasional Bluetooth pairing failures, English-only effectively. The EY3 third-party app (some 2023+ units) has its own issues.
- Low-mounted deck headlight — illuminates close ground but poor for being seen by cars at intersections. Most enthusiasts add aftermarket bar-mounted LED.
- Unlocking culture creates buyer risk — many used market units have been unlocked/modified by previous owners, potentially affecting battery stress, controller life, and resale value. Always verify firmware and ride history before purchase.
- Brake fluid maintenance — hydraulic discs need bleed every 2-3 years and use mineral oil (NOT DOT brake fluid). Many DIY owners damage seals by using wrong fluid. €40-60 shop bleed cost.
- Cold weather range loss is severe — Baltic winters drop range 30-50%. Combined with IP54 limitations, most Baltic enthusiast owners store Dec-Feb.
