V Series (V3Rs / V4Rs / V5Rs)
Algupära
The Colnago V series is the modern race backbone of one of cycling's most storied Italian marques, founded by Ernesto Colnago in Cambiago in 1954. The line began with the V1-R in 2014, a lightweight aero-influenced racer co-developed with Ferrari's engineering studio (the Cavallino Rampante appeared on the frame). The V2-r followed in 2017 with more rigidity and cleaner aerodynamics, then the V3Rs in 2019/2020 became a genuine landmark: light enough to climb, stiff enough to sprint, and the bike Tadej Pogacar rode to his 2020 and 2021 Tour de France victories - the first Tour wins ever on a Colnago badge. In December 2022 the V4Rs arrived, born from Pogacar's 'Prototipo' test frames, adding aerodynamics while keeping the all-round character and 32mm tyre clearance. In 2024 Colnago added a more accessible non-Rs V4, and in April 2025 the V5Rs - the lightest Colnago frame ever at 685g raw - continued the dynasty as Pogacar's 2025 race weapon. The 'V' stands for Victory.
Tehnilised andmed
- Raam
- Monocoque carbon fibre (each generation refines the layup)
- Kahvel
- Full carbon fibre (V4Rs ~375g; V3Rs disc fork ~340g)
- Jõuülekanne
- Complete builds vary: Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra Di2, SRAM Red/Force AXS, or Campagnolo Super Record; framesets also sold
- Pidurid
- V3Rs offered rim OR disc; V4Rs and V5Rs are disc-only (flat-mount hydraulic)
- Rattad
- Build-dependent (e.g. Shimano Dura-Ace C50, Enve, Fulcrum on lower trims); frameset users pick their own
- Rehvid
- Clearance up to 30mm (V3Rs) / 32mm (V4Rs); typically shipped with 28mm race tyres
- Geomeetria
- Pro race geometry, size-specific; V4Rs 7 sizes (relaxed 71.8deg head angle, long reach); V3Rs 8 sizes; V5Rs slightly more aggressive
- Kaal
- Complete race build ~7.0-7.4 kg depending on generation and spec
Verdikt
- Pinpoint, confidence-inspiring handling that rewards fast, aggressive riding and descending
- Genuine all-rounder: light enough to climb, stiff enough to sprint, aero enough for the flats
- Race pedigree and prestige - Pogacar's proven Tour de France and Monument-winning platform
- Eye-wateringly expensive, especially top framesets and Dura-Ace/Super Record builds
- Pro-oriented geometry and firm-ish front end can feel demanding for casual/endurance riders
- Disc-only from V4Rs onward; older rim-brake V3Rs increasingly niche for parts/wheels
Põlvkonnad
V3Rs (2019-2022)
- Climbing/all-round focus; last with a rim-brake option; Pogacar's first Tour wins
- Pidurid
- Rim OR disc
V4Rs (2022-2025)
- Adds aerodynamics + wider tyre clearance; disc-only; the workhorse era
- Pidurid
- Disc only
V5Rs (2025+)
- Lightest + most aero, same stiffness as V4Rs, slightly more aggressive geometry
- Pidurid
- Disc only
